John Alvord is a practicing freelance graphic designer. He entered the industry in 1988 and now satisfies the print design needs of local and national clients. His work includes identity, packaging and collateral design. He has been teaching at the college since 1996.

He is the regional coordinator of the Building Efficiency & Sustainable Technology (B.E.S.T.) Certificate Program at Norwalk and Housatonic Community Colleges.

David Boyajian is a noted sculptor who works in a variety of scales and materials. Known for his Bud & Seed forms fabricated from steel, these large scale sculptures appear to be three-dimensional riffs driven by the power and beauty of nature. www.davidboyajian.com. Following 20 years of teaching sculpture at the Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, Boyajian co-founded Sculpture Barn in New Fairfield, CT where he teaches metal, stone and wood sculpture. He has been teaching Drawing I & II at the college since 1999.

Jim Bergesen   Jim Bergesen

Jim Bergesen is a working artist with master’s degrees in both Visual Arts and Contemporary Art History and Criticism. This duality is reflected in his artwork, which merges traditional painting and photographic practice with digital technologies. Jim’s works are in corporate and private collections.

 

Roger Dickinson   Roger Dickinson

Roger Dickinson was born and educated in England and graduated from the University of Leeds with a BA in textiles. His career has been in printed fabric design, for fashion. Roger first pioneered hand printing of fashion fabrics for fashion designers and then developed the studio concept of textile design, first in London and, later in New York, providing fabric designs for the fashion industry worldwide. While in London he taught for many years at Central St Martin’s. He is currently teaching at Parsons and NCC, and producing textile art in the hand weaving and tapestry tradition.

Steven DiGiovanni is a painter living and working in New Haven. He has exhibited in New York, Boston, and throughout Connecticut. His work is in numerous private collections and the Permanent collection of the New Britain Museum of American Art. Steven has been an instructor at NCC since 1999.

 

Chris Durante   Chris Durante

Chris Durante runs and operates a studio in Danbury where he prepares art work for local and national museum and gallery exhibits. His own drawings, depicting whimsical comic book abstractions, are shown extensively throughout the northeast, most recently at The Washington Art Association in Washington Depot CT. He has been teaching drawing at NCC since 2001.

Melissa Frobel   Melissa Frobel

Melissa Frobel entered the design industry in 1988. After several years working as a designer in a large corporation, she joined a growing agency. In 1994 Melissa opened a branch office, growing the business from one employee to six with many large corporate clients. She currently enjoys a small freelance business and has been teaching at NCC since 2005.

 

Bruce Glaser   Bruce Glaser

Bruce Glaser has published articles and seminal interviews regarding major contemporary artists. He was director of several New York City art galleries and has taught at Pratt Institute, Hunter College, Lehman Colleges of CUNY and the University of Bridgeport. He has been teaching art history at NCC since 1992.

Mark Goodwin is a practicing architect with seventeen years experience in the architecture profession. He works with Beinfield Architecture PC, a twelve person architecture firm in South Norwalk, CT. He has worked on a wide range of local architecture, interior design and construction projects including single-family residential homes, small commercial buildings, and retail and restaurant interiors. Mark has been teaching at NCC since 2003.

Cara Kacin is a graphic design professional with 15 years experience in the print and interactive design industry. She has been teaching a variety of design and software classes for the past seven years at local institutions of higher education.

Larry Morelli is a practicing painter, who has a studio at Erector Square in New Haven and belongs to Kehler-Liddell Gallery in Westville. As an adjunct Instructor at Norwalk Community College he teachs Drawing I and Figure Drawing.

 

Gerard O'Brien   Gerard O’Brien

Gerard O’Brien has been digitally editing photographs since the creation of Photoshop in 1990. He has taught computer and design courses at both Paier College of Art and The Silvermine School of Art for over 15 years and works as a freelance retoucher.

 

 

 

Mari Ogihari   Mari Ogihara

Mari Ogihara is a ceramic sculptor based out of Port Chester. Her work explores ornamentation and embellishment as practiced in fashion and architecture from various cultures. Ogihara has studied ceramics in Kyoto, Japan and Gujarat, India and most recently a ceramic residency in Vallauris, France. Her sensual, snake-like porcelain sculptures are inspired by her travels. The repetition, meticulous detail, and ritualistic approach in decorating the surface are demonstrated on Ogihara’s sculptural forms. Most recently her show “Veiled Ornaments” was exhibited at the Hammond Museum in North Salem, New York.

Richard Rose is an artist and design educator who has taught at a number of institutions nationally. His design practice focuses on visual identity, publication design, art direction and environmental graphics.

Ken Scaglia has been working in graphic design since 1984, specializing in book design since 1990. He also maintains a painting studio in Weston. www.kenscagliastudios.com. Ken taught graphic design at the college from 1991 to 1995, returning in 2008.
