Full –time 12 month position
Master’s degree in an appropriately related field to the position’s specialty together with four years of related work experience required. Candidate must be a licensed counselor, social worker, or other licensed mental health professional (LCPC, LCSW, etc.). The applicant should have strong leadership ability, in-depth knowledge about the practice of counseling and have a record of active participation in professional associations. The candidate must have at least three years of experience in a clinical mental health capacity. Strong preference will be given to candidates that have worked in higher education.
Reporting to the Director of Counseling the successful candidate will provide proactive intervention services for students who are experiencing personal and emotional issues which may affect their academic success; deliver mental health assessments, short-term personal and group counseling, crisis intervention, and referral to community resources; and serve as a resource to the faculty, staff and college community on matters related to student mental health issues. The position may lead support staff or student workers as assigned and may supervise graduate students in counseling internships. Typical duties include but are not limited to:
• Ascertain student’s needs and make appropriate community-based referrals when necessary; provide crisis
intervention and emergency referral for students; and maintain confidential student records;
• Coordinate staff development on mental-health related topics to faculty and staff on campus; assist faculty in
learning to identify students who can benefit from mental health counseling services; and serve as a resource
to faculty and staff for issues related to student behavioral, social and wellness issues;
• Develop promotional and informational materials on student mental health programs at the College; and
develop and maintain a Mental Health Counseling web page for the College.
Salary is commensurate with qualification and experience.
