During finals of each semester the Bookstore sponsors a Book Buy Back. Prices for books purchased for the buy back company are determined by supply and demand. Prices for the majority of books purchased by the Bookstore for resale are set at 40% of original price.

How are my Required Text Books Selected?
Individual instructors, department chairs, directors, or coordinators are responsible for selecting texts for all courses. The Bookstore is not involved in the selection process. |

Why Doesn't the Bookstore Purchase Cheaper Books?
The Bookstore does its best to keep the cost of books as affordable as possible for our students. However, the publishers determine the prices, and the instructors select the texts. Suggestions are made to instructors when a less expensive version of a title is available. We also purchase as many used books as needed and are available from students and used book companies. |

How are Used Book Prices Calculated?
All used books are sold at 75% of the new price. A $100 book would sell for $75. The greatest savings would be realized by purchasing a used book at 75% and selling it back to the Bookstore at 40%.
For example:
| New Textbook | Used Textbook |
| Price: $100 | Price: $75 |
| Buy back: $40 | Buy back: $40 |
| Actual cost: $60 | Actual cost: $35 |

Why Can't I Find My Books on the Internet with the ISBN Number?
There are two main reasons for this, although there may be others as well. First, publishers have begun to package books with additional supplementary materials. In many cases the publisher does not give the choice to purchase the book alone, so it therefore has a different ISBN. Sometimes instructors arrange a special package with a publisher which would also have a different ISBN. Second, custom books have become popular because they cost less. These books would only be available from the Bookstore. |
|
|
Why are my Books Out-Of-Stock or Incorrect?
There are several reasons that this may occur.
- An instructor may have students purchase a book that is being used for another section without submitting a requisition for that book.
- The course was overenrolled.
- Last minute change of instructor.
- The text is temporarily out-of-stock at the publishers warehouse.
- A faculty member changed their mind or did not order until the last minute.
- Misinformation on your registration form, incorrect course or section number.
- Clerical error by Bookstore personnel or in the ordering process.

When is the Book Buy Back?
Buy backs are held in the Bookstore during finals of every semester. We also sponsor buy backs at the beginning of each semester outside the Bookstore. We suggest you come during finals as the Bookstore pays more for used books. For dates and times see our "Store Hours" page. |
|
|
What Determines the Amounts Received for Books at Buy Back?
During finals the Bookstore calculates most prices at 40% of the new retail price for books that have been readopted and stock is needed. Otherwise the buy back company determines their price based on supply and demand. In some instances if a new edition is going to be or has been printed, if all of the components of a package are not returned, or if pages are filled in or torn out the books may have no value. |
