Accounting Career Course of Study

Mission Statement
The distinctive mission of the Accounting Programs at NCC is to:

• Graduate students considered proficient at the two-year level of college, either to transfer to a four-year institution or to join the workforce.
• Provide workforce development or lifelong learning.
• Promote success through a stimulating, nurturing environment that fosters high-quality instruction.

NCC offers two options in the Accounting Program.  There is a transfer program for those who plan to continue their studies in accounting, or in a related field, at a four-year institution, and there is a career program to prepare students for immediate employment.  

Many students who graduate from NCC's transfer program go on to study to become certified public accountants and/or certified management accountants.  Those choosing the career program are often employed as junior accountants or accounting clerks.  In either case, they get the firm footing needed to understand the complexities of a business in transition.     

Completion of the program leads to the Associate in Science Degree.  This program also offers opportunities for cooperative education/work experience.

What Do Accountants Do?

• Examine financial records
• Provide tax advice
• Develop computerized financial systems
• Advise companies on ways to increase profits
• Analyze future financial needs
• Conduct financial research
• Prepare financial reports
