Hospitality & Culinary Arts

  • "Books are great, but the practical knowledge you can get from teachers who have worked in the business is invaluable."
  • "At NCC, I am getting the opportunity to understand the dynamics of running a catering business."
  • "I just love seeing people smile.  What I have learned here has made me a much better host."

(quotes from students majoring in Hospitality Management).

Students majoring in NCC's Hospitality Management & Culinary Arts Program all agree: This is a special department with outstanding teachers who have a wealth of knowledge to share.  The students all say that they are better hosts - at home or in real-world jobs in the industry - and they credit this program with building their skills, understanding and confidence when it comes to making people feel warm, welcome and comfortable.

Many of the students majoring in this discipline come in loving the food service, leisure, travel or hospitality industries.  Others come in wanting to be better and more highly paid in an existing job.  But the enthusiasm in the department is infectious.  For whatever reason you may start studying hospitality or culinary arts, you are likely to find it rewarding enough to stay.

The opportunities for trained professionals in this field are almost endless, and the skills one acquires can be readily transferred from one part of the industry to another.  Students enrolled in this field cited the ability to transfer from one end of the business to another and the ability to choose from among a wide variety of locations as reasons for their continuing pursuit of excellence here at NCC.

There are more than 30 hotels, motels and beds & breakfasts here in lower Fairfield County.  NCC graduates can go on to work for airlines, restaurants, cruise lines, theme parks, hotels, country clubs, night clubs, or casinos.  And, now that Connecticut has the largest casino resort in the world at Foxwoods, this is no longer a drive-through state; it has become a stop & stay state.

If you need to spread your wings beyond our state, you can use the skills you learn here from Monaco to Moscow, Manhattan to Manila, or from Managua to Mannheim.  The world becomes your oyster - and one you'll know how to prepare and serve with style.
