Alternate Location Testing Services

Adaptive Technology Lab

West Campus, Room W209j

When approved by the Coordinator of Student Disability Services, students may arrange to take exams in our Adaptive Technology Lab, Room W209-j.

The procedure is as follows:

1.     The first day of class students should read the course syllabus and course outline to identify all the scheduled test dates. Give the instructor the “Academic Adjustment Letter” and meet with the instructor to discuss your needs for testing adjustment(s) and confirm the test dates.

a.    If your “Academic Adjustment Letter” included Alternate Location for Exams or Adaptive Technology Lab, follow the procedure below.

b.    In addition, if the instructor is unable to provide extended time for your exams, call (203) 857-7192 or email the Coordinator of Student Disability Services for Alternate Location Testing approval then follow the procedure below.

2.     Preferably by the second week of class, fill out and submit one yellow form for each course entitled "REQUEST FOR ALTERNATE LOCATION TESTING".  Include all the testing dates for each course. Also submit one “STUDENT SCHEDULE” form each semester.  Submit the forms to Beth Lambert in W209 at the Reception area.  Forms are available on the Disability Services webpages or the Reception areas in E107 or W209.

a.     At minimum of one week is needed to process “Requests.”

b.    The test should be completed the week it is scheduled.

c.     When you schedule your test, be sure to allow time for extended time, if that is your academic adjustment. That means one and a half times the amount of time the test is designed to take.

d.    The proctors will check the testing schedule and confirm your appointment in person, by phone or email.  The test will be scheduled as near to the time of your request as possible, depending on availability of proctors and the testing room.

3.     When you are given a confirmed test time from the proctor, you should receive or pick-up the green reservation form to give to your instructor entitled "ALTERNATE LOCATION TEST RESERVATION FORM.”  Give the reservation form in-person to your instructor (do not put it in a faculty mailbox).  This is how you notify the instructor of the day and time of the appointment.  Remind the instructor to deliver the test to room W209j prior to the appointment time.

4.     Important note: Tell your instructor to write on the green form any special testing instructions given to the class.  The center follows official exam procedures.

If not in writing, it will not be allowed!

5.     Be on time to room W209-j.  If you are late, testing time may be deducted.  If you cannot attend at your scheduled time call Heather Alexander at 857-6844 or Beth Lambert at 857-7298)

6.     When finished, leave the test with the proctor.

7.     Tell your professor that you have taken the test and that he or she must pick it up.
