English Department

The Norwalk Community College English department offers a wide range of courses from developmental level writing to courses on Shakespeare, Studies in Ethnic Literature, Film and Literature, Mythology, and creative writing workshops in fiction and poetry, among other offerings (including advanced composition and survey courses in American, British, and World literature). The courses are designed for incoming college students, adults returning for a first degree or refresher, and adults looking for the stimulation and excitement of studying literature in a formal way.

Outside of the classroom, NCC has an active Literature Club that sponsors trips to hear writers at the 92nd St. Y in Manhattan and to plays at the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven. In addition, there is a reading group called Ex Libris and a student literary journal called Musings. The campus is also lucky to have a student newspaper, The Voice, under the auspices of the Communication Arts Department.

Students interested in pursuing English as they move beyond the community college should consider enrolling in the Liberal Arts transfer degree program at Norwalk Community College. With an undergraduate degree in English, students can go on to a plethora of educational activities and employment opportunities: graduate programs in literature and or liberal studies, law school, paralegal studies, technical writing, creative writing, journalism, teaching, editing, web-site creation, advertising, public relations, etc. The possibilities are endless and wide-open.
