Welcome to
Musings,
NCC's Student-run
Literary Review.
The student Editor-in-Chief of Musings is Tamela Ritter. Tamela can be reached at tamslink2u@yahoo.com.
The Faculty Advisor to Musings is Gary Carlson. Professor Carlson's office is W136, located on NCC's West Campus, toward the rear of the lounge area in the CIT Cyber Commons (the new Tech Wing). He can be reached at (203) 857-7349; however, if he doesn't pick up, messages should be sent via e-mail to gcarlson@ncc.commnet.edu.
Musings is published each spring (usually by May 1st) and consists entirely of creative work (poetry, short fiction, essays, some art work) by NCC students.
The deadline for submissions to Musings is always March 1st, no exceptions. We strongly urge students not to wait until the last minute. Fall submissions are especially welcome.
The guidelines for submitted to Musings are listed below or can be accessed by clicking the appropriate link on the sidebar.
All submissions to Musings are automatically entered in the Creative Writing Contest sponsored by NCC's Literature/Creative Writers' Club (see sidebar for more on the Lit Club).
Each April, the Lit Club awards tops prizes of $200 each for the best poem, short, story, essay, and cover design submitted by students. Entries are initially judged by our student editors, who then forward the finalists in each category to a faculty judge with expertise in that field (the exception is the cover design, which is always chosen by our student editors).
Winners and Runners-up of our Creative Writing Contest are invited to read their work at NCC's Academic Festival in April. They are also invited to attend NCC's Honors Awards Ceremony in May, where they will be presented with their checks, Award Certificate suitable for framing, and two copies of Musings (which is also available throughout our campus, including NCC's Library and Bookstore).
Students interested in serving as editors on this year's edition of Musings should contact Tamela Ritter immediately at tamslink2u@yahoo.com.
Students interested in submitting their work to Musings should adhere to the following guidelines:
