| Sculpture I Students Create Structures Using Newspaper and Duct Tape Students from Joe Fucigna’s 2009 Sculpture I course began the semester by creating two site specific sculptures using only duct tape and newspaper. During the first meeting the class was split in half and each group was asked to design a structure using duct tape and newspaper at an outdoor site on either the East or West campuses. The only requirements were the structures had to be large enough to fit the group into, it had to be constructed in a 2 hour period during class and by the end of class the structure would be disassembled and the site returned to its natural state. The beauty of this project is how it opens up the possibilities of what sculpture can be, and how common materials can be transformed into something unique and engaging. The collaborative element also taught teamwork skills and was a good community builder for the class.
